Four Questions: With Sarah

In the Four Questions. series we ask Making Rainbows parents the same four questions. Meet Sarah!
What is your professional background?
I’m currently on maternity leave but when I’m at work I’m a Behavioural Scientist working for a health and medical research company.
What is the most challenging thing about parenting for you right now?
Do I have to pick just one? At present we’re tackling the transition from one child to two. It’s been a bigger adjustment than I had anticipated for everyone – especially the toddler monster. As parents we’re trying to juggle sharing our time between the kids and each other with little down time. Our 19 month old son is struggling with sharing our attention with his baby sister and not understanding why the new baby is still in the house. I’m pretty sure he’ll learn to accept and love her… eventually.
What are you enjoying most about parenting right now?
I’m enjoying baby cuddles again. Whenever I can I absolutely love sitting quietly on the couch with a warm tea staring at my gorgeous baby.
What do you enjoy most about Making Rainbows?
We’ve been going to Making Rainbows for about 1.5 years now and I love everything about the program. It’s our favourite time of the week! I find the classes rich in educational and developmental content that stimulates and challenges my son in a fun and interactive way. He has grown so much since attending the classes and always naps so well after class (thank you, Miss Bernie!). I find myself taking inspiration from the classes for our play time at home. Without Making Rainbows I never would think to make rainbow spaghetti to help develop his fine motor skills.
More than just a music class for our son, it is also a place of social support for me as a new mum. The journey into motherhood for the first time can be daunting and isolating. I found the mums at Making Rainbows so welcoming and supportive. The post-bubbles coffee catch up has been a chance to make beautiful new mum friends and chat about the joys and challenges of child wrangling. We’ll be a Making Rainbows family for many years to come!

Four Questions: With Kristie

In the Four Questions. series we ask Making Rainbows parents the same four questions. Meet mum of two, Kristie!
What is your professional background?
When I’m not having babies, I am a full time Health, Safety and Environment Manager working for a large multi-national company. I have 2 post-graduate university degrees and love the challenges of my job. I’ve been lucky to have worked all around Australia, in different industries, small towns and big cities.
What is the most challenging thing about parenting for you right now?
Right now, the most challenging thing is juggling a 3 year old (aka threenager) and a 3 month old. Getting a routine down was important to me and took a while to work out with both of them. I worry about whether I’m spending enough quality time with each of them equally and giving them what they need and deserve as little people. I am constantly asking myself ‘Am I doing the right thing?’ Parenting is a big responsibility.
What are you enjoying most about parenting right now?
I enjoy watching my kids little personalities develop, the funny and sweet things they do and say. My 3 year old is hilarious, sweet, crazy, loving and frustrating all at the same time. With my baby, I know she is my last so I’m trying to savour all the little baby things; the smiles, laughs, smells, bath time. They learn and grow so quickly.
What do you enjoy most about Making Rainbows?
I love that Making Rainbows gets me out of the house and I can stop worrying about the washing or whatever needs to be done at home. It’s like a little escape for me! But most of all I love having one-on-one time with my baby, completely focussed on her in a learning and development environment. Oh, and I get to sing like no one is listening.

Four Questions: With Manique

In the Four Questions. series we ask Making Rainbows parents the same four questions. First up, we have mum of two, Manique.
What is your professional background?
In my non- mummy life I work as a physiotherapist in private practice. I love treating pregnancy related issues and post natal patients, and I think becoming a mum myself and understanding and experiencing all the changes our body (and minds go through!) in this period of our lives has made me develop and even greater interest and love in working in this area.
What is the most challenging thing about parenting for you right now?
Having just had our second baby last year when our first only had turned two years old a week prior, I would say that feeling like I am able to provide a nurturing environment and providing attention to two very young babies both at the same time is the most challenging. You always want to do better and give more of your time and affection to your children and the leap from one to two was an eye opening experience. I’m in awe of those mums with 3, 4, 5 and more – you’re amazing ! Also, sleep…or lack of sleep has been challenging this time around.
What are you enjoying most about parenting right now?
This one is hard to narrow down…Nothing has given me more joy in my life than watching my two girls interact and play with each other, and seeing the absolute delight my ten month old feels when her big sister sings or dances for her. There’s nothing better than snuggling my little ten month old and seeing her face light up. Seeing what an amazing and unique little character my almost three year old is becoming and how she is changing daily is so beautiful…it’s an explosion of speech, humour, inquisitiveness and fun on the daily! Parenting toddlers can be challenging but it’s also hilarious!
Parenting toddlers can be challenging but it’s also hilarious!
What do you enjoy most about Making Rainbows?
I love that I can bring both my girls to a class that caters for both of their abilities and developmental stages. They love music and dancing and it’s a highlight of their week and mine, as I watch their excitement and happiness during the class.
