Four Questions: With Sarah

In the Four Questions. series we ask Making Rainbows parents the same four questions. Meet Sarah!

What is your professional background?

I’m currently on maternity leave but when I’m at work I’m a Behavioural Scientist working for a health and medical research company.

What is the most challenging thing about parenting for you right now?

Do I have to pick just one? At present we’re tackling the transition from one child to two. It’s been a bigger adjustment than I had anticipated for everyone – especially the toddler monster. As parents we’re trying to juggle sharing our time between the kids and each other with little down time. Our 19 month old son is struggling with sharing our attention with his baby sister and not understanding why the new baby is still in the house. I’m pretty sure he’ll learn to accept and love her… eventually.

What are you enjoying most about parenting right now?

I’m enjoying baby cuddles again. Whenever I can I absolutely love sitting quietly on the couch with a warm tea staring at my gorgeous baby.

What do you enjoy most about Making Rainbows?

We’ve been going to Making Rainbows for about 1.5 years now and I love everything about the program. It’s our favourite time of the week! I find the classes rich in educational and developmental content that stimulates and challenges my son in a fun and interactive way. He has grown so much since attending the classes and always naps so well after class (thank you, Miss Bernie!). I find myself taking inspiration from the classes for our play time at home. Without Making Rainbows I never would think to make rainbow spaghetti to help develop his fine motor skills.

More than just a music class for our son, it is also a place of social support for me as a new mum. The journey into motherhood for the first time can be daunting and isolating. I found the mums at Making Rainbows so welcoming and supportive. The post-bubbles coffee catch up has been a chance to make beautiful new mum friends and chat about the joys and challenges of child wrangling. We’ll be a Making Rainbows family for many years to come!
